3-D Art

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This semester students will be applying their knowledge of the Elements and Principles of Design while using various media in the creation of original artwork. Our clay unit includes hand-building construction techniques and wheel-thrown pottery skills. Other three-dimensional projects may include leather, foam core and found object sculptures

 

LEARNER OUTCOMES:

In successful completion of this course each student will:

• Know the proper name and use of ceramic materials and tools.

• Demonstrate competency in a variety of sculpture construction methods and techniques.

• Maintain a high standard of construction.

• Create original and imaginative varieties of structural and surface interest in their projects.

• Become knowledgeable of ceramic and sculpture terminology

Demonstrate understanding of some of the functions and characteristics of 3-D art in different cultures and/or time periods

CLAY AND GLAZE:
Each student will receive clay on an as needed basis to create all required projects. Each

project will be graded at the bone dry stage

Work will then be glazed or painted and graded for glazing quality

 

 

ARTWORK EVALUATION: Project grading is based on craftsmanship (neatness), creativity, use of media, and following directions. Notes, quizzes, and skill development activities are also graded.

 

LATEWORK/MAKE-UP POLICY: Students are expected to complete projects while materials and tools are available for use in the classroom. Assignments missed due to excused absences will receive full credit if handed in within two days of the return to school. Assignments turned in late will receive partial credit.

 

BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS: Continued disruptions and/or distractions that take away from teaching and learning may result in removal from the room, alternative written assignments and detention at the teacher’s convenience. Our classroom philosophy is simple. We maintain a safe, creative atmosphere that is work-oriented and positive.

SUPPLY REQUIREMENTS: Pencils (#2, no mechanicals, no pens), small sketchbook.
