Travel Project Directions
You
have secured a job with Hotzy’s Travel Agency. One of the perks of this
job is an all expense paid trip to a city of your choice (no duplicates) for 4 days and 3
nights. Have fun and put together a
TV commercial and a self-running PowerPoint presentation extolling the city. You are traveling at the following
times:
Tuesday Jan 10 - Friday Jan 13.
You MAY choose ONE co-worker to go with you on this trip and submit as a group project.
You have been given an expense account of $3000 (single or double). This should cover all your expenses including flight, hotel, meals, car rental, admission prices, night clubs, etc. You have also been given phony ID for 21 years of age. You must be completely accountable to your employer of all details of your trip. Use the Internet to research details - flight, hotel, rental car if needed, etc. (Find out the prices and details. Do not actually book it. No package deals - do each separately). Find out what tourist sights and fun spots your city has to offer and visit them. Your goal is to make visitors want to visit your city
Most of the tourist information can be found on the Internet. Produce 4 MS Office documents and a movie to satisfy your boss. You will be printing out the Outlook Calendar. The Word, Excel and PowerPoint will be saved in your own folder (named after your city) in the Travel folder (available only in IHA).
1.
Word document
- (fit as much as you can on 4 pages) These are your quick reference
sheets as you travel. You'll carry these sheets with you while you
travel. You should fit as much important information as possible - show
flight details, hotel address, maps,
phone numbers (must have hotel phone number!!), maybe several restaurants, directions,
activities, e-mail and web page contacts, etc. You’ll use this as a guide and map while
you’re there and your boss needs a copy to know what you’re up
to.
2. Excel spreadsheet - (1 page) detailing how you spent your budget. Airfares, hotel, car rental prices, admission charges should be obtained from the Internet or guidebooks. Other expenses like meals can be approximated. You must use formulas. Find the local sales tax rate and have excel add it on when needed. Organize the expenses and make the spreadsheet neat and/or pretty. Include a pie graph showing the breakdown (Travel, Accommodation, Meals, Activities, etc.) of your expenses. Example
3. PowerPoint presentation- (at least 10 slides) to entice would-be travelers to visit your city. It is a commercial aimed at prospective clients. (It should not mention you or YOUR trip). Insert pictures. Add music. The presentation will be running automatically on a monitor outside my travel agency at the mall, so set the timings correctly including looping continuously. It should run between 1 and 3 minutes.
4. Outlook calendar - (1 page) Fill in your schedule for the 4 days of your trip. It should detail what you are doing throughout the day. Include Flights and Layover times. (Watch Time Zones - Westbound flights will look much shorter than Eastbound). Don't include sleeping time.
5. 30 second television commercial using Movie maker - It should be an exciting compilation of pics, videos with music and effects. It should be more dynamic and action-filled than the PowerPoint. It must be 30 seconds long.
You'll hand in printed copies of the Outlook.
