1.      Biff said that Willy had the wrong dreams.  How is this statement true?  What were Willy’s dreams?  What dream could Willy have actually realized?

2.      In his essay “Tragedy and the Common Man,” Miller says, “ I think the tragic feeling is evoked in us when we are in the presence of a character who is ready to lay down his life, if need be, to secure one thing – his sense of personal dignity.”  How is the character Willy Loman a manifestation of this idea, and why is it important?

3.      One of the themes in Death of a Salesman, as well as other Miller plays, is the examination of how families and lives are destroyed by false values.  Discuss this theme in Death of a Salesman, and its relevance to modern society.

4.      Who is Willy’s foil in the play?  Explain how that person serves as a foil, noting specific differences between them.
