GOALS: Students will

  1. Communicate in  French: to understand spoken language, to exchange information in simple conversations, to read, and to express themselves in writing.
  2. Observe and analyze cultural differences of the French-speaking world.
  3. Use the French language to reinforce and further their knowledge of other disciplines.
  4. Develop insight through French into the nature of language and culture through comparisons of francophone cultures and their own.
  5. Use French within and beyond the school community for personal enjoyment and enrichment.

FIRST QUARTER

Unit 1:  “Faisons Connaissance”

  1. Saying hello and good-bye
  2. Introducing oneself, friends, and family
  3. Counting to 100
  4. Saying how old one is and asking the age of someone else
  5. Studying where French is spoken in the world
  6. Saying where one is from, the adjectives of nationality
  7. Singular definite and indefinite articles
  8. Singular possessive adjectives

 

SECOND QUARTER

Unit 2:  Daily Activities

  1. Ordering in a café
  2. Asking about prices and paying for food and drink
  3. Using French money
  4. Telling time
  5. Giving the date and day of the week
  6. Talking about the weather
  7. Gender of nouns
  8. Tu and vous forms

THIRD QUARTER

Unit 3:  “Mes Activités”

  1. Describing daily activities
  2. Expressing likes and dislikes
  3. Inviting, accepting, declining invitations
