Welcome to the 2010-20011 Academic Year!
Welcome Blue Eagles - Class of 2014
KEYS TO SUCCESS:
Participation.
Participation in class activities and discussion is essential to success in this course.
For full participation, each student is expected to bring to each class session an attitude of respect and tolerance for the ideas of other class members.
Class participation depends on being prepared with all assigned readings and/or written work. |
Attentiveness.
Every student is expected and required to give her full attention to class material.
Misuse of laptop computers or disruptions will result in loss of computer privilege, detention and/or referral to the Assistant Principal for Students. |
REQUIRED MATERIALS:
Each student must bring her textbook(s) and laptop computer to every class unless directed otherwise.
She must be prepared to take notes in either a religion notebook or in her Religion I folder/notebook on her laptop.
Complete uniform and adherence to rules for behavior as outlined in the student agenda. |
ASSIGNMENTS:
Students are required to check the Homework page of my website after each class for homework assignments.
All assignments are due at the beginning of class according to the due date. Students should be prepared to show their work or hand it in as directed at the start of the class period.
LATE ASSIGNMENTS: Any assignment handed in after prayers is considered late and will have points deducted. Each day an assignment is late will result in additional points deducted.
HEADINGS. Assignments should be completed in standard 12 point font size, black print and include a heading as follows: |
Student Name
Mrs. Szydlik/Religion I
section (color or number is fine)
Date
Assignments that are printed out or collected electronically must be double spaced, except for the heading which should be single spaced. Points will be deducted from assignments that do not follow this format.
Coursework will be accepted via email only if arrangements have been made previously.
PLAGIARISM. Any violation of the school's academic honesty policy will be referred immediately to the Dean of Students. |
CONTACT MRS. SZYDLIK:
EMAIL. Students and/or parents can contact me with questions or concerns through email (bszydlik@ihahs.com). Email received after 8pm can expect to receive a response the following day. All email must contain the student's name and section in the subject field.
ROOM 208. I am available to all students for any questions or concerns about Religion I. Students can see me in Room 208 before homeroom, generally after 2 pm, or send an email to request another time. |
GRADING:
Students will be evaluated based on the points they have accumulated from tests, projects, quizzes, written reflections, homework assignments, and class participation.
Tests and projects will be weighted twice;
Written reflections will be weighted twice;
Quizzes, homework assignments, and classroom performance will be weighted once |
ABSENCES/GENERAL MAKE-UP POLICY:
Following an absence it is the student's responsibility to contact me the day of her return to school regarding missed work or assignments due.
Students are expected to check my website to keep track of homework assigned during an absence.
Work missed due to an absence must be made up within one week of returning to school. If a student is absent for more than three days, she should see me when she returns to school to arrange a make-up schedule.
Work due on the date of an absence must be handed to the teacher in person on the day the student returns to school, whether or not her section meets on that day.
As a general rule, a student must take a make-up test on the next day she is in school during a free period or after school. It is your responsibility to schedule a make-up time on the morning of your return. I am in Homeroom 208. For each day you are in school after an absence and do not see me to make up the test, 5 points will be deducted from your test or quiz. |
HELPFUL SUPPLIES:
Highlighter (essential!),
Religion I notebook or electronic folder on laptop,
Folder (or section of an accordion folder) to store handouts, quizzes and reflections that have been returned
