We are currently working on chapter one and chapter two. Please
remember to read the entire chapter. In order to be successful, you need
to review the material often through your notes as well as reading the chapters.
CHAPTER ONE & TWO OUTLINE
Define:
CHEMISTRY and identify substances as chemicals.
Describe the
activities that are part of the scientific method.
Write the names and
abbreviations for the metric or SI units used in measurements of length, mass,
volume, temperature and time.
Write a number in
scientific notation.
Identify a number as
measured or exact; determine the number of significant figures in a measured
number.
Adjust calculated
answers to give the correct number of significant figures.
Use numerical values
of prefixes to write a metric equality.
Write a conversion
factor for two units that describe the same quantity.
Use conversion factors
to change from one unit to another.
Calculate the density
of a substance; use the density to calculate the mass or volume of a
substance.
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS
PLEASE CHECK THE CLASSROOM BOARD FOR THE DAILY HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS. Since the pace of the class is decided daily based on the classes' understanding of the material, sometimes the class notes for a particular homework assignment are not gotten to. Therefore, the homework must be amended.
QUIZ AND TEST ANNOUNCEMENTS
Chem class will have a test on ch. 1 & 2 on Friday, October 29th.
(will be posted when it is time - all tests and quizzes are announced approximately one week in advance)
