AP Chapter 2 Guide
Recommended chapter problems for chapter 2: remember that odd numbered problems have answers in the back of the book. You should be able to do these problems: #25, 27, 29, 35-57 (odds), and 59-71 (odds).
A lot of this chapter should be familiar, but there are some new ideas you'll need to think about. Here are the skills you are responsible for after studying each section:
Section 1: To give a brief account of early chemical discoveries
Section 2: To describe and illustrate the laws of conservation of mass, definite proportion, and multiple proportions
Section 3: To describe Dalton's theory of atoms and show the significance of Gay-Lussac's experiments
Section 4: To summarize the experiments that provided information about the structure of the atom
Section 5: To describe features of subatomic particles and to use atomic symbols to describe the composition of a given atom
Section 6: To describe basic ideas of bonding in molecules and to represent molecules in sketches
Section 7: To review various features of the periodic table
Section 8: To properly name compounds, given their formulas, and to write chemical formulas for compounds, given their name
