Home printers are fully installed, thus they are constantly looking for your home printer to check ink status, etc.
Remove the HP programs in Control Panel or click Run- type msconfig - startup tab.  Uncheck any references to HP printers. You'll still be able to print to the printer.  Your laptop just won't try to monitor its status.
