Correcting an incorrectly named laptop
Right click "My Computer" - Properties - Computer name
The description should be your Full Name. Correct if needed.
Click Change
The computer name must be your 8 character code - i.e. 10SmiMar
If Domain - IHA is chosen - "Unjoin" the Domain.
Chose Workgroup - type IHA and click OK (no account or password is needed to switch to workgroup). After 30 seconds the laptop will confirm that you've joined the IHA workgroup. The laptop will tell you that you must Restart. Click OK. But don't restart. stick Change again and rejoin the domain as per below.
If Workgroup - IHA is chosen - Rejoin the Domain
Chose Domain - type IHA and click OK (account: Admintemp password: bosco - needed to join Domain). After 30 seconds the laptop will confirm that you've joined the IHA workgroup. The laptop will tell you that you must Restart.
Now Restart - CAREFUL !
Log onto This Computer (the computer name you used above – NOT IHA). Click the Options button if you do not have a line for Log onto.
If you accidentally log onto
IHA - your documents will appear to be gone, your background will be changed and
you will not be able to run some programs.
Restart and Log on correctly.
