Student Responsibilities

 

 

  1. Students should arrive to every class prepared. Being prepared for class means that the student has:

 

  1. Absences:

·         If a student is absent it is her responsibility to check my webpage to see what was assigned for homework.

·         Students who are absent on the day of a quiz/test will be expected to make it up on the day they return to class.

·         In case of a lengthy absence, we will work out a reasonable schedule for making up work.

·         Any student who fails to make up a quiz/test will receive a grade of zero.

 

  1. Assignments and Tests:

·         All assignments are due at the beginning of class. Please be sure that all necessary assignments are printed and stapled before class.

·         Tests are always announced several days ahead of time.

·         Some quizzes are announced

·         Unannounced “reading check” quizzes can be administered at any time.

·         Unannounced open notebook quizzes maybe given at anytime. Students should have an up-to-date notebook with them at all times.

 

  1. Late Assignments:

·         Homework is due at the time of the class meeting. Late homework may not be made up for credit.

·         Late essays and projects will be marked down 4 points per calendar day that it is late.

·         If a student is absent on the day that an essay is due, she should submit it that day via email and then hand in a hard copy the next time we meet for class.

 

  1. Quarter Grades will be calculated based on tests, quizzes, projects, homework assignments, and class participation.

 

  1. Any email to the teacher must contain the student’s full name and class section. Email without such information will be deleted.

·         Email is generally checked twice daily.

·         All email receives a reply. If a student does not get a reply, she should assume that the email was not received.

·         All emails should be directed to: rcastaldo@ihahs.com

 

  1. Class Participation:

·         Will be evaluated based upon your contributions to class discussions, insightful questions, and responses as well as your ability to think critically about the lesson.

·         Taking notes is also a required part of class participation.

 

  1. You are expected to show everyone in this classroom respect, courtesy, and a tolerance for ideas.

 

  1. Honesty is expected at all times. Plagiarism is a serious offense. All incidents of academic dishonesty will be reported to the Dean of Students.
