In order to optimize our time together, the following
classroom procedures will be followed throughout the year:
-
Arrive on time and be prepared for class.
This means you are expected to have all materials needed for class including
laptops and any homework assignments completed in the assigned format.
-
Participate in class.
Class can be as interesting as we make it! Active, constructive participation is not only encouraged but expected
and it will make a difference in your grade. .
-
Classroom Atmosphere. R-E-S-P-E-C-T!
Mutual respect in the classroom requires that the teacher respect the
students, the students respect the teacher and the students respect each
other.
-
Homework:
- ALL HOMEWORK IS DUE WHEN CLASS MEETS. This
includes homework to be collected electronically which should be put in
the appropriate folder on the IHA server before class
meets.
- Have a back-up strategy: have a homework CD-ROM that
you can hand in at the beginning of class in case the server is down.
- Homework reading may be checked by unannounced
reading check quizzes.
- GRADING SCALE FOR HOMEWORK:
check plus plus = A+;
check plus = A
check/check plus = B+
check = B
check/check minus = C+
check minus = C
check minus/check minus = D/D+
Unsatisfactory = F
-
Late Assignments:
- Assignments are due at the time the class meets.
Your grade will be lowered 5 points for each calendar weekday an
assignment is late.
- Only some unusual circumstances should prevent you
from being prepared. Do not wait until the class period to explain
why you will be late with an assignment, send me an email ahead of time.
-
Absences:
- YOU are responsible for all work,
assignments and material covered in class. Please phone or email a
fellow student to see what you missed. You may also check my
website or email me.
- For an extended absence, we will work out a
reasonable schedule for making up missing work.
- For shorter absences, students must make up
tests or quizzes within two days of return. See me the day you return or
email me at LMaltz@ihahs.com to make arrangements.
- The day a major writing assignment is due, e-mail
your paper to me.
- If the absence is planned, see me ahead of time
for assignments.
-
Grading Policy. Tests, major assignments and/or projects will be double weighted; quizzes,
homework and participation grades are single weighted.
-
Email:
- When you send me an e-mail, be sure to use your name
and class section in the
subject line. I delete all unidentified e-mails without opening them.
- I will send a return e-mail if you include a
homework assignment as an attachment. If you do not receive an
acknowledgement from me, you need to re-send your assignment.
- E-mail me by 8 pm—I probably will not see e-mails sent later in
the evening.
- Academic Honesty: Integrity is an important value
and is expected for all students; cheating in any form will not be tolerated.
Plagiarism and other forms of cheating will be referred to Mrs. Hals, the Dean
of Students, for disciplinary action. Please review your IHA agenda and
the website so you are clear on this subject.
