Setting up Wireless Home Internet

Double-click the little Black Computer on the bottom right (Access Connections).

Click Find and connect to the SSID of the wireless network that corresponds to your router.

Click Connect.

If your network is unencrypted, it should assign you an IP address and Internet should be accessible. When prompted, save the profile for future use.

If your home wireless network IS encrypted, it will notify you and ask if want to set it up or ask for a password. (Different versions of this program have slightly different interfaces)

To set up or modify a profile, click Location Profiles - Edit.

Under wireless settings, make sure the SSID is exactly what is being broadcast.

Under wireless security type,

Use Static WEP key if the password is a 5 letter word or 10 hexadecimal digits. (0 - 9 and A - F).

Use Wi-FI protection if your password is 8 letters/numbers or longer.

Note that Access point authentication and Data Encryption have several options. The default settings usually work, but those settings may have been altered when your laptop was set up.

If another laptop in your house connects, compare all these settings.

In additional settings, you may override proxy configuration, telling it NOT to use a proxy while at home.

Click OK and Connect.
