Network Troubleshooting

If all works well, you should be part of the wireless IHA network and get Internet access as soon as you log on.  Alas, that may not be the case.  There are several steps you can take to try to fix this problem.

Are you getting a wireless signal?

The Wireless Connection Status icon in the lower right taskbar displays the signal strength.   A green graph indicate a good connection.  A yellow graph is acceptable. If the graph has a red x, your computer is not receiving a signal.

If you are not receiving a signal, click Find WLAN

If the IHAwireless Network appears, choose it and click Connect.
If no Network name appears, click Re-Scan and your computer will search for signals on other channels.
If no signal is detected after a minute, then you may be out of range of any of the school's 15 wireless access points.  Try moving to a different location.  If this solves the problem, please notify the CAVE of this "blind spot" at your convenience.

Are you not getting the Internet?

All Internet connections at IHA go through Proxy Server.  You may have changed your Internet configuration at home and must change it back.

To change your Internet Proxy settings -

Right-Click the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop. Click Properties.
Or click Tools - Internet Options within Internet Explorer.
Choose Connections Tab -  Click LAN Settings - Check the Box "Use a proxy server ..."
Address is 192.168.100.3   -   Port is 80   -   Click OK.
If this fails, try address 192.168.100.2.

You must remove this check to use IE at home.

Do you have a valid IP address?

When you log onto the network, you are given an IP address.  Sometimes your computer will lose that number. Logging off and Logging back on will usually issue your computer a new IP address.

To verify that you have a valid IP address, Right Click My Network Places - click Properties.  Click Wireless Network Connection and look at the Details at the bottom of the left frame.  If the IP address starts with 192.168 then you have a valid IP.

Did you log on with your proper IHA account name?

You must log on as 07last3first3 (ie. 07smimar) with the correct domain password.
