Arts Festival 2009-2010 Barnes and Noble Art Exhibit
WELCOME!
Our facilities and sequential programs are designed to provide a well-rounded foundation for both beginning and intermediate level students in the freshman and sophomore years. At the junior and senior levels, advanced, exigent and specialized university-level instruction and portfolio development are offered. Young women intending to pursue post-high school art studies, those who wish to use the portfolio as an adjunct to university application, or upper class women delving into art as a leisure and pleasurable activity, are encouraged to explore our courses. IHA artist alumnae have pursued undergraduate and graduate university degrees and have gone on to careers in painting, ceramics, sculpture, graphic and interior design, photography, art history, illustration, museum education and curation, architecture and art education.
We offer a wide range of specialized courses that include a variety of visual and academic studies, MLA formatted research papers, critical thinking, aesthetics and historical art appreciation, oral critique and shared ideas. Written and practical exams are adjuncts to visual studies and the practice of art. Our extra-curricular activities include our highly active National Art Honor Society. They create service projects such as Liturgy banners and set designs for school productions, which help fulfill school service hours. Every second year NAHS sponsors an alumnae social where graduates return to speak about their university experiences in fine and applied arts and associated disciplines. We also offer field trips, in-school exhibitions at Christmastime and in the spring, Artist of the Day during Young Artist's month in March, and monthly exhibitions in the school's lobby showcases. Where appropriate, technology is used as a creative art tool. We use the industry standard creative software, Adobe Photoshop CS3-4. Microsoft Office, including Front Page to design individual web galleries, is used in the classroom and for homework.
Our department's extensive, enriching faculty web sites are colorful and interesting educational landscapes in themselves, where students can learn as well as read assignments and requirements. We welcome you to visit them in the faculty links above. To visit our student art Galleries, see examples of our artists' works both above and they are also accessible via the school's home web site page.
